NETGEAR N600`

NETGEAR N600 Box

The NETGEAR N600 (WNDR3400) wireless dual band router offers high-performance Internet access to all your wireless devices, at speeds up to 300 Mbps on each band. It offers great wireless performance on both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands with excellent range, especially on the 2.4GHz band. Its true dual-band Wi-Fi technology and 4 internal antennas reduces interference, ensuring top speeds. It is perfect for demanding applications, such as multimedia streaming and multiplayer video games. With 5 10/100 Ethernet ports, the N600 works well for most wired home network solutions, at a low cost.

The N600 wireless router also has built-in parental controls, making it ideal for home istallations where limiting access to certain devices is important.

Setup is quick and easy, using a built-in web interface. It generally takes less than 10 minutes to install and configure the device.

I use a one of these wireless routers myself, and I haven't had any problems with it. It works great with all of my wireless devices as well as my wired network. I have noticed that while the 5GHz band has a higher bandwidth and therefore higher throughput, it also has a lower signal strength and drops out much faster than the 2.4GHz band. While the 2.4GHz signal is still good (around -65dBm) at about 15 meters (50 feet), the 5GHz signal is poor at -75dBm at the same distance. The 2.4GHz signal drops out fairly quickly beyond this point, while the 5GHz signal drops out a bit slower. At a distance of about 20 meters (65 feet), both signals are in the dirt at about -80dBm. Of course, the exact range of these signals depends highly on attenuation due to walls and other objects.

The only drawback of this wireless router is its lack of gigabit ethernet ports, though the 10/100 ethernet ports are suitable for most home networks. The price and overall functionality of this device still makes it a great buy.
